Federal Regulations

AICCU is an active member of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU) and works closely with NAICU on legislative, budgetary, and regulatory matters of importance to independent/private, nonprofit colleges and universities.

Federal programs of importance to the sector include – student aid, tuition tax benefits, and charitable tax deductions. These programs allow colleges and universities to better serve students and families.

The Higher Education Opportunity Act passed by Congress in 2008 and the 2010 Program Integrity rules, enacted several rules that colleges and universities must follow if their students receive federal financial aid. AICCU monitors these issues and shares information with its institutions and state government officials.
