Government Relations

AICCU advances the interests of California’s independent, nonprofit colleges and universities in public policy matters, while encouraging legislation at the state and federal levels that supports the mission of our institutions, our current and future students and families, and recognizes Independent California Colleges and Universities as vital partners in higher education policy.

AICCU staff meets with policymakers, tracks campus trends, conducts research, analyzes higher education issues, publishes information, coordinates campus government relations staff and advises members of legislative and regulatory developments with potential impact on the institutions.  AICCU is proud to have played an instrumental role in the initial creation of the state’s Cal Grant Program.  Cal Grant awards are provided to California residents who meet specified state criteria and attend an eligible private or public college or university.
