AICCU President Kristen Soares Issues Statement on Thousand Oaks Shooting

Kristen Soares, Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities President, issued the following statement regarding last night’s Thousand Oaks shooting.

“My colleagues and I are deeply saddened by the senseless shooting in Thousand Oaks, and we wish to share our condolences to the victims as well as their families and loved ones as they mourn last night’s tragic events. Our hearts are with everyone affected and those in the California Lutheran University community, as we have learned that one of last night’s victims was Justin Meek. A recent Cal Lutheran graduate, Justin was only 23 years old when his life was taken. We have also learned of another victim, Alaina Housley, a Freshmen at Pepperdine University whose life was also tragically taken. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and the Cal Lutheran and Pepperdine communities during this difficult time.

AICCU will offer all possible support and assistance to California Lutheran University and Pepperdine University to ensure students, administrators, faculty and surrounding communities may recover and heal from the heart-breaking events from last night.”
