AICCU is an active member of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU) and works closely with NAICU on legislative, budgetary, and regulatory matters of importance to independent/private, nonprofit colleges and universities.
Federal higher education programs of importance to the sector include – student aid, tuition tax benefits, and charitable tax deductions. All of these programs allow colleges and universities to better serve more students.
The Higher Education Opportunity Act passed by Congress in 2008 and the 2010 Program Integrity rules, enacted several rules that colleges and universities must follow if their students receive federal financial aid. AICCU monitors theses issues and shares information with members and state government officials to ensure California is in compliance.
