AICCU advances the interests of its almost 80 member private, nonprofit colleges and universities in public policy matters, while encouraging legislation at the state and federal levels that supports the mission of our institutions, our current and future students and families, and recognizes California private nonprofit colleges and universities as vital partners in higher education policy.
The AICCU staff meets with policymakers, tracks campus trends, conducts research, analyzes higher education issues, publishes information, coordinates campus government relations staff and advises members of legislative and regulatory developments with potential impact on the their institutions. AICCU is proud to have played an instrumental role in the initial creation of the state’s Cal Grant Program. Cal Grants provide annual grants to California residents who meet specified state criteria and attend an eligible private/public college or university. In 2013-14 over 27,000 California resident students used a Cal Grant to attend an AICCU institution.
